An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. Latimer Sends WCC Employee Contracts To Legislature After eight years, an agreement has been reached between the county and employees of Westchester Community College. County Executive George Latimer announced he is sending the renewed contracts Contracts for the Westchester Community College Federation of Teachers and the Civil Service Employees Association to the Board of Legislators for review. Indian Point Workers Authorize Strike Employees of Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan could be going on strike as early as next week. More than 300 members of Local 1-2, the Utility Workers of America, which represents employees of the nuclear power plant in Northern Westchester, voted to authorize a strike on Thursday. Their contract expires on Wednesday and a strike could happen as early as next week. Employees said they are seeking a new collective bargaining agreement that would extend to the plant's closing. Yonkers Man Throws Dog Down Two Flights Of Stairs, Police Say A Westchester man was arrested by the SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Unit after police say he threw a dog down two flights of stairs. Frank Gallo, Sr. of Yonkers was charged with animal cruelty. The SPCA received a call to its confidential animal cruelty hotline on Tuesday saying a pit bull, Riley, was allegedly picked up by its neck in a chokehold and violently thrown down two flights of stairs by Grillo. Riley was rushed to a local veterinary hospital for medical attention. His injuries were not serious, the SPCA said.

Four Ossining High School Students Named Regeneron Semifinalists OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining is one of the top schools when it comes to future scientists.Four Ossining High School students made the semifinals in Regeneron's Science Talent Search. Each student receives a $2,000 award, with an additional $2,000 going to the scholar’s school. Sarah Hoffman investigated Alzheimer’s disease-related protein expression and immune cell activation in the brains of male and female mice as well as humans. Wappinger School Board Postpones Fishkill Elementary Vote FISHKILL, N.Y. -- The redistricting of Fishkill Elementary School will have to wait. The Wappingers School Board decided to postpone its vote on changing the boundaries of the elementary school that would see students who live on Baxtertown Road, Round Hill, and Osbourne Hill Road attending Myers Corners Elementary instead. Schorr Announces State Senate Run Dan Schorr is the latest candidate to run for County Executive George Latimer's old state senate seat. Schorr, a White Plains resident, announced Thursday he is seeking the Republican nomination to represent the 37th District. The seat became vacant when Latimer was elected county executive. Latimer Hopes Section 1 Basketball Tourney Returns To County Center The 2018 Section 1 boys and girls high school basketball tournament will not be held at the Westchester County Center in White Plains this year, breaking with tradition. Poughkeepsie Superintendent Accuses School District Of 'Emotional Distress' The Poughkeepsie City School District Superintendent is thinking of suing her own school board. Superintendent Nicole Williams has filed a notice of claim against the board for $1 million, citing "emotional distress." In the claim, Williams' attorney, Stanley Silverstone, the board's actions have cost her $13,567 in legal fees and irreparable harm to her reputation.
