Union City Man Sexually Assaulted 4-Year-Old Boy: Prosecutors A 35-year-old Union City man was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy on Monday, July 31, authorities said. Jose Romero was arrested by the United States Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Romero is charged with aggravated sexual assault in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree, Suarez said. NJ's Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver Mourned As Trailblazer Sheila Oliver, the lieutenant governor of New Jersey, died on Tuesday, Aug. 1, her family announced. She was 71 years old. Oliver, who was born and raised in Newark and lived in East Orange, had been serving as acting governor while Gov. Phil Murphy was vacationing in Italy. Newark Scooterist Killed After Colliding With Vehicle: Prosecutors A 36-year-old Newark was resident was killed when the electric scooter they were riding collided with a vehicle on the morning of Monday, July 31, authorities said. Union City Police Officer Busted For DWI: Secaucus PD (Updated) A police officer from Hudson County has purportedly been charged with DWI, according to authorities and various news reports. Mauricio Garces, a 34-year-old Secaucus resident was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Sunday, July 2, Secaucus Police said. Garces has been a police officer in Union City since 2019. Gelateria Opens In Ridgewood Ridgewood just got sweeter. A new gelateria, Gelato di nonna, has opened in the downtown at 37 E Ridgewood Avenue. The location was previously home to Wild and Hearty, a juice bar. Wild and Hearty opened in 2019 under the same ownership as Samba Bowls. It wasn't clear when the shop shuttered, but was last active on Facebook in Summer 2021. According to Google, Gelato di nonna's hours are noon to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
