Jack's Cafe, Replaced By Popular Hot Dog Spot In Westwood, Returns As Pop-Up Jack's is making a comeback. Jack's Cafe, the Westwood staple that closed after 16 years, is returning as a pop-up restaurant at B & M Meat Market at 146 Kinderkamack Road in Park Ridge on Saturday, Nov. 4.  The restaurant will be takeout only and open Saturday through Tuesday. The cafe, which closed in 2022, was replaced by 1950 Originals, a hot dog eatery owned by the grandson of Callahan's.  Jack's had planned a popup event at Luna's Outdoor Bar and Grille in Vineland last month but was forced to cancel.

False Bomb Threat At Newark School: Police A false bomb threat was phoned into BRICK Avon Academy in Newark on Monday, Oct. 23, police said. Police responded to the school at 1 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Police, along with the Essex County Sherriff's Office K-9 unit conducted a sweep of the building and determined the call was false, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.

Secaucus Man Sexually Assaulted Teen Girl: Prosecutors A 30-year-old Secaucus man was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 2022 and 2023, authorities said. Anyelo Jimenez-Marte committed sex crimes on the girl, who was between 14 and 15 years old on various dates in a Secaucus apartment, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The girl was known to Jiminez-Marte, Suarez said. Jiminez-Marte was charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Suarez said. He is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility, pending an arraignment, Suarez said.

On Tuesday, Oct. 10, police responded to the 100 block of South Munn Avenue after a man broke into an unlocked parked vehicle and took a wallet containing cash, credit cards and other valuables. An investigation uncovered surveillance footage, which police hope will help identify the suspect, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
