An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Ridgewood's Scottie Scheffler Ranked #1 Following PGA Championship Scottie Scheffler, a Bergen County native, is back on top. Scheffler is currently the #1 ranked golfer on the PGA Tour following his second place finish at the PGA Championship in Rochester, where he finished two strokes behind winner Brooks Koepeka. At the PGA Championship, Scheffler got off to a hot start, with a -5 after two rounds. He struggled in the third round, carding a +3, but rebounded in the final round with a -5. Fire Destroys Essex County Home A home in Fairfield was gutted following a fire on Saturday afternoon, May 20, authorities said. Police and firefighters were called to Glenroy Road South at 1:04 p.m. and discovered a working fire, Fairfield Police Chief Anthony Manna said. All occupants had evacuated prior to arrival, Manna said. The fire was extinguished after about 90 minutes, Manna said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Manna said. Man Fatally Shot In Newark: Authorities A 37-year-old Newark man was shot and killed early Friday morning, May 19, authorities said. At 2:35 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Lindsley Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Soon after, they received a report on the 200 block of Sunset Avenue and located Wesley Murphy in a car suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Stephens and Fragé said. Murder: Arrest Made In Death Of Norelis Mendoza An arrest has been made in the death of 32-year-old New Jersey mom Norelis Mendoza, authorities said. Gregory Mallard, 35, of Jersey City, was arrested on Friday, May 19, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, who disclosed few other details other than his charges. She did note, though, that the killing was an act of domestic violence. Mallard was slapped with charges of first degree murder and multiple charges of improperly disposing of human remains, among other charges, Suarez said. Car Crashes Into Bank In Nutley A person crashed into the front entrance of the Valley Bank on River Road in Nutley on Friday, May 19, police said. The driver believed their vehicle was in park, police said. No one was injured and the Nutley Fire Department and Code Enforcement inspected the building for safety, police said. The vehicle was removed from the bank, which was secured by private contractors, police said.

NJ Reps Aim To Keep AM Radio In Vehicles Many automakers are removing AM radios from their new electrical vehicles. Some New Jersey congressmen want to change that. Rep. Josh Gottenheimer (D-NJ), who represents most of Bergen County and parts of Passaic and Suffex County is the lead sponsor on a bill in the House of Represenatives that would require automakers to maintain AM radios in their new vehicles at no extra charge to the consumer.
