Man Gets 24 Years For Fatally Stabbing Weehawken Woman: Prosecutors A 24-year-old Weehawken resident was sentenced to 24 years in state prison on Friday, Sept. 8 for stabbing a woman in the neck in June 2021, prosecutors. Vincent Palacios had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the death of Michelle Castillo, a 24-year-old Weehawken resident, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. On June 19, 2021, Weehawken Police responded to 561 Hudson Ave. and found Castillo unresponsive in the bathroom, Suarez said. Jersey City Bicyclist, 34, Dies In Route 78 Crash A 34-year-old Jersey City cyclist was killed after he was struck by a vehicle on Route 78 West in Union County on the morning of Monday, Sept. 11, authorities said. Irving Batista was riding his Zugo e-bike when it was struck by a Ford pickup truck at 6:09 a.m. in Union Township, Detective Jeffrey LeBron said. After being struck by the Ford, the e-bike overturned and was struck by a Madza, Lebron said. Batista sustained fatal injuries, Lebron said. Authorities are still investigating the crash, Lebron said.

Man Critically Injured At Jersey City Construction Site: Authorities (Updated) A man was critically injured after a forklift overturned while he was working at a construction site in Jersey City on Monday morning, Sept. 11, authorities said. The incident occurred at 425 Summit Avenue at 8:09 a.m., Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. The man was removed the site and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Wallace-Scalfione said. The victim was employed by L&W Supplies, a spokesman for OSHA said. OSHA said it has six months to conduct an investigation and release its findings.

Man Fatally Shot In Newark: Prosecutors A 39-year-old Newark man was fatally shot on Friday, Sept. 8, authorities said. At 6:43 p.m., Newark police responded to a shooting on the 100 block of Brookdale Avenue and found Ralph Harris suffering from gunshot wounds, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after, Stephens and Fragé said. Pedestrian Seriously Injured, Man Charged With DWI In North Bergen Crash: Prosecutors A 65-year-old woman was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver on the early morning of Friday, Sept. 8 in North Bergen, authorities said.
