Racetrack Murder: Man Drove 1K Miles To Stab LI Employee To Death, Jurors Agree A jury has convicted a Long Island man accused of viciously stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death at a local racetrack. Jose Franco-Martinez, age 58, of Elmont, was found guilty of second-degree murder nearly five years after stabbing Maria Larin, the Nassau County DA announced Wednesday, April 5. Larin worked as a hot walker at the Belmont Park racetrack in Elmont, where she would walk horses after their races to help them cool down. Duo Knocks Employee To Ground After Nabbing Merchandise At Long Island Business Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating two men accused in an early-morning robbery at a Long Island business. The two suspects entered a North New Hyde Park CVS, located on Hillside Avenue, shortly after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, Nassau County police said. Burglar Steals Cash Registers From Long Island Business, Flees Police are asking for tips after someone broke into a Long Island business and stole its cash registers. It happened at around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, in Lawrence, at Very Juice, located on Central Avenue, according to Nassau County Police. Detectives said the suspect broke a glass back door before nabbing two cash registers and then fleeing on foot. Police did not say how much money he made off with or which direction he went. Selene Persaud, age 13, of Hempstead, was last seen on Brown Avenue on Thursday, April 6 shortly after 9:30 a.m., Nassau County police announced. LI Man Gets 23 Years For Sexually Assaulting 10-Year-Old A Long Island man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child, and who was accused of doing so for months, has been sentenced to over two decades in prison. Criminal Couple: LI Duo Fraudulently Claim $112K In Benefits, Lie On Paperwork, DA Says A husband and wife from Long Island are facing more than half a dozen charges after fraudulently collecting $112,000 in public assistance, authorities said. Man Steals $420K From Long Island Victim, Police Say A man accused of stealing nearly $420,000 from a Long Island woman has been arrested. East Islip resident Kenneth McConnell was arrested on Thursday, April 6 for what Nassau County police call an “elderly scam” in Woodmere that included identity theft and pawning off stolen property. The scam reportedly lasted from January 2020 to December 2021.
