PTA Money Gone Missing: Sag Harbor Woman Admits $14K Theft From School Group, Authorities Say
A Long Island PTA leader admitted to stealing more than $14,000 from the organization, authorities said Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Hope Livingston, 50, of Sag Harbor, copped to swiping $14,487 from the Sag Harbor Elementary School PTA, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said. She is expected to receive a sentence of five years on probation at her next court appearance on Oct. 6.
Livingston worked as co-treasurer and then vice president of the organization from July 2021 through June 2024, giving her access to a PTA bank account and debit card, investigators said.

‘Jersey Store’ Star’s Huntington Store Set To Close After Two Years
About 30 months after it first opened, The Snooki Shop is closing its Long Island location.
The company’s Huntington branch at 42 Gerard Street will close in October, the store announced Monday, Aug. 3 on Instagram.
“We’re celebrating with exclusive in-store sales over the next few weeks,” the store’s post read. “Stop by, shop your favorites, and help us make these final moments unforgettable.”

A New York man was killed in a one-vehicle crash on a Capital Region highway on Tuesday morning, Aug. 4, police said.
Miguel Alejandro Mendoza Canarte, 29, of Shandaken, was traveling westbound on Interstate 890 through Schenectady around 6:20 a.m., New York State Police said.

A drunk Long Island woman accidentally stole a car that looked just like hers when she stumbled out of a bar, police said.
Cops said Ariel Salgado, 35, walked out of a Patchogue bar on Saturday, Aug. 1 and stepped into a gray 2020 Mazda CX-5, the New York Post reported.
Investigators said Salgado, of East Patchogue, drove a gray CX-5 — but not this one, according to News 12 Long Island. The actual owner had left the keys in the car and parked near Salgado’s car, the Suffolk County Sheriff's office said.

Moreau Sex Offender’s Parole Violation Lands Him Back In Prison: Police
A New York sex offender with an extensive criminal history violated his parole terms and was locked up again, police said.
Damien M. Beayon, 41, created new social media accounts and email addresses without informing authorities, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s office said Sunday, Aug. 2.
Beayon, of Moreau, had previously been jailed for weapons possession and a second impaired driving offense, according to state prison records. He was re-arrested Wednesday, July 29, police said.
