An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Support Surges For Family After Pets Die In Budd Lake Fire In the blink of an eye Regina and Adam Buga lost everything. Their home in Budd Lake was destroyed by a fire on Saturday, Sept. 16. The fire also claimed the lives of their dog and cat. The Bugas had lived in the home for 20 years and lost all their possessions. A fundraiser has been created to assist them. As of Monday, Oct. 2, almost $20,000 has been raised. "The family lost everything," donor John Zawistoski said. "I would expect the community to do the same if a tragedy happened to my family." Man Sexually Assaulted Woman In Jersey City: Prosecutors Raul Pena, a 31-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman at a residence in Jersey City, authorities said. The sexual assault occurred on Sunday, Aug. 20, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The woman had met Pena through an acquaintance in the hours leading up to the assault, Suarez said. Pena was charged with aggravated sexual assault in the first degree, Suarez said. Male Body Found In Newark Dumpster: Prosecutors A body of a man was found in a dumpster in Newark on Thursday, Sept. 28, authorities said. At 5:19 p.m., Newark police found the body inside a dumpster on the 600 block of Clinton Avenue, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Stephens and Fragé said. The man remains unidentified, Stephens and Fragé said. These 9 NJ Towns Failed To Correct Sick Leave Policies, State Comptroller Says Towns throughout the Garden State have not addressed their sick and vacation leave policies, the state's comptroller said. In a letter sent to Gov. Phil Murphy, Senate President Nicholas Scutari, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and State Comptroller Kevin Walsh said nine municipalities have refused to cooperate and develop a correction action plan and is requesting that Murphy's office withhold state funds if they do not cooperate within 30 days. Elizabeth Man Gets Nine Years For Stabbing Woman: Prosecutors A 36-year-old Elizabeth man was sentenced to nine years in state prison on Friday, Sept. 22 for stabbing a woman last year, authorities said. On Jan. 25, 2022, Juan Abreu-Perez stabbed a woman inside her apartment on South 5th Street, causing her serious bodily injury, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel said. Abreu-Perez was sentenced after pleading guilty to aggravated assault in August, Daniel said.

'Disgrace': Bar Patron Assaults Employee, Launches Tirade At Jersey City Gay Bar A man assaulted an employee and hurled anti-gay slurs at a Jersey City gay bar on Thursday, Sept. 28, authorities and the bar said. Pint, which has been a Jersey City institution since 1911, said the man asked an employee why they have a rainbow flag. Plainfield Man Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of Star Football Player: Prosecutors Maurice Pierce, 23-year-old Plainfield man was arrested on Monday, Sept. 25 and charged with murder in the shooting death of Jameer Outsey, a former college football player, back in August, authorities said. On Sunday, Aug. 12, Elizabeth police responded to North Broad Street and Magnolia Avenue and found Outsey, a Bridgewater resident, suffering from a gunshot wound, Union County Prosecutor William A.
