52-Year-Old Woman Hit, Killed By Van In Capital District A woman is dead and another person is hospitalized after a van struck a pedestrian in the Capital District. Albany Police were called at around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, July 7, with reports of a serious crash on Central Avenue and Robin Street. A preliminary investigation revealed that the van was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue when it crossed into the westbound lanes and struck the 52-year-old woman before crashing into a building. Teens Steal Handgun From Woman Who Gave Them Ride To Store In Capital District, Police Say After a Capital District woman gave two teenagers a ride to the store, they repaid her by stealing her handgun, according to New York State Police. Troopers in Greene County were called to Main Street in the town of Cairo on Monday, July 4, with reports of a stolen gun. The woman told troopers she had given the duo a ride to a local store, and had gone into the store to purchase some items. Local Man Found With Loaded Gun At Airport In Hudson Valley, TSA Says A local man is facing a “stiff” fine after he was found trying to board a flight at Stewart International Airport in Orange County with a loaded handgun. The Dutchess County man, identified as a resident of Poughkeepsie, was stopped by police after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers made the discovery Tuesday, July 5, according to the agency. Man Accused Of Breaking Into Capital District Home, Breaking Windows A local man is facing charges for allegedly burglarizing a Columbia County home and breaking windows. New York State Police troopers were called to a home in Copake on Friday, July 1, after the victim returned home and saw that someone had broken in and damaged windows. Investigators determined that the culprit was Ancram resident Arnold Albright Jr., age 54, who had violated an order of protection, police said. Math Teacher From Capital District Accused Of Sexually Abusing Minors A high school math teacher from the Capital District is facing charges after police said he sexually abused minors, some under the age of 13. Saratoga County resident Crim Trerise, age 56, of Middle Grove, was arrested Wednesday, July 6, following an investigation by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said Trerise, who teaches at Ballston Spa High School, had inappropriate sexual contact with four victims in the town of Greenfield between 2015 and 2017.
